Massachusetts Young Scientist Investigations into the Sea MYSIS Academy July 17 - Aug 5, 2006 |
The MYSIS Academy is a 3 - week long summer marine science academy for 30 incoming 9th grade students from the Boston Latin Academy (BLA) and the John D. O’Bryant School of Math and Science (JDO).
Goals The goals of the program are twofold: first, to expand the scientific literacy of Boston Public School (BPS) freshmen using marine-based learning models that are aligned with and enhance the learning standards of the Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks for Science and Engineering & Technology (May 2001), and second, to expand students’ awareness of the regional marine environment and how it is influenced by human activities using a fun, hands-on science curriculum. Program The program is field-based hands-on experiential learning that explores the coastal marine environment of Massachusetts. Activities include:
